Florence Community Communion – Order of Service

“that they may be one”

The Word – all reading taken from NKJV,

1. GATHERING

2. WELCOME

Leader says: “Welcome to our Community Communion we hope you have found a gathering around one of our tents. Your congregation may have a tent and so we encourage you to find an usher in an orange vest for direction or visit a tent to see the list with congregations’ tent numbers.”

3. SONG OF PRAISE

4.  CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader 1: “We want to open our worship with the prayer of Jesus on the night he was betrayed: Jesus prayed: I pray “for those who will believe in Me through their Word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.
Leader 2: And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may become perfectly one, and that the world may know that you have sent Me and have loved them as You have loved Me.
(John 17:20b-23)
Leader 1 says: Because we are One by faith in Him, how are we/you now then to live? Let us say in unison Jesus’s words from Matthew 22:37-39

CONGREGATION IN UNISON
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
Leader 3 says: On these two commandments depend all the Law & the Prophets.”
(Matthew 22:37-40)

5. SONG OF GLORY

6. SCRIPTURE

(RESPONSIVE READING)
Leader: “For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ.” (1 Cor. 12:12)
CONGREGATION: “I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, …
Leader: with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
CONGREGATION: There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” (Ephesians 4:1-6)

7.  SCRIPTURE

Leader: “A Reading from Revelation 19
And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, “Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!  Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.”  And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.  Then he said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!’ ” And he said to me, “These are the true sayings of God.” (Revelation 19:6-9)

8.  DEVOTION- UNITY OF THE BODY

under tents by pastors/leaders.

9.  APOSTLES CREED

Leaders, “Let’s stand and say together what we believe about God and his gospel and his work in the world in this world and the one to come by saying together the Apostle’s Creed Modern Language Version
CONGREGATION
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy universal church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. AMEN.

10. UNITE IN PRAYER

(Congregations move together to pray for unity in Christ)

11. GIVING OURSELVES:

We are called to move into our world in His name. Let’s reach Florence for Him. For His glory, and praying for His Kingdom to come. With that said …let me suggest that you Sign up for a ServeFLO project on the ServeFLO.org site right now. (Via the QR Code on one of
the ServeFLO yard signs or the large sign on the tent).

Just to name a few of the projects: We have health screenings next Saturday. A prayer walk, A community cookout next Sunday. There is a project to middle schoolers who have certain clothing needs. There is work on homes. Need for help on school campuses. Our
animal shelter needs help with supplies.

Or if you have a passion for a certain area that is not listed and you want to add to the list of opportunities, please “suggest a project” on the website and begin to recruit some friends to join you and we will help you promote it online.

Let’s make this month a whole season of service where we fan out across our neighborhoods to help our broken and lonely world.
And of course all of these opportunities to serve need financial backing to happen. If you would like to donate to Helping Florence Flourish and earmark it as a gift to ServeFLO go to our home page and you will find a donate button at the bottom.

12. SONG

13.  INVITATION TO COMMUNION

14. WORDS OF INSTITUTION

Read by Leader: as we prepare for communion listen to the apostle Paul’s reflection from 1 Cor11.  For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes. Therefore, whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. (1 Corinthians 11:23-28)

15. REFLECTION/CONFESSION

Leader: Take this moment to examine your heart and humbly confess your sin, and your need for God’s mercy as you prepare to receive the body and blood of Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord.

Choir Music

Leader: “As we close our time of confession please stand and let’s say the Lord’s prayer together. Jesus taught his disciples to pray saying…”

CONGREGATION:
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name,
Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are Yours, now and forever. Amen.

Leader shares the Peace and invitation to the table
“Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all.” And all God’s people said
(2 Thessalonians 3:16)
CONGREGATION “Amen!”

16. DISTRIBUTION OF COMMUNION

Music during distribution

Leader: “Now, we encourage everyone to move toward the tent in the center of the field and form lines where designated Pastors/Leaders will move to the center of the tent to give you the bread and wine when you approach the table. Please hold (do not open) until given instructions. We will eat and drink together. After you receive your elements please encircle the tent and wait until everyone is served.

After everyone receives their “meal” a Leader says: “Let me encourage you now to open the top of the container where the bread is. Take it in your hand and raise it up. “This is the body of Christ broken for you. Take and eat”
Now open the juice container. Raise this up… “this is the blood of Christ shed for you.”

CLOSING COMMUNION

Leader: For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. (1 Corinthians 5:7b)
Leader and CONGREGATION together: And let us say together, “For we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread.” (1 Corinthians 10:17)

17. SENDING

Leader 1: “As he was about to ascend to heaven to leave this world, Jesus used these words to send out his disciples to continue his work….”
“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
(Matthew 28:18-20)
Leader 1 “Let it be so, Amen?” Congregation “AMEN!”

18.  BLESSING

Leader 2: Leave this place blessed with these words from Numbers 6:
“The LORD bless you and keep you; The LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you;
The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.”
(Numbers 6:24-26)
In the name of The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit, Amen.

19. DEPARTING

Closing worship 2 songs
Please thank the choir with me for their service to the Lord and helping us to worship today.

Again, as you depart please engage with ServeFLO site and or friends to plan a community cookout or do some other activity to love your neighbor during OCTOBER.  Let’s impress our neighbors with the LOVE that they sense from us during these days.  God Bless You and thank you for coming.
