 What is Jobs For Life?

Jobs for Life (JfL) believes that unemployment is a global problem that requires a local solution — and believes the solution is found within the local Church and organizations in Florence, South Carolina.

By training, equipping, and connecting churches, ministries, and businesses in the local community, JfL is helping the local Church and organizations prepare men and women for meaningful work through honest relationships, mentoring, Biblically-based training, and an ongoing community of support.

Jobs for Life CORE training: To combat poverty and unemployment at the local level, the Jobs for Life Florence network offers a deeper model looking for Employer Partners, Community Partners, Students, and Church Partnerships to be a part of the growing network. How Does Jobs for Life Help?

JfL addresses the root causes of unemployment by uniting churches, businesses, and community organizations and facilitating positive transformation within lives and communities.

JfL offers a discipleship platform through the JfL Class, which enables leaders and volunteers within local churches and community organizations to develop Gospel-centered relationships as unemployed and underemployed individuals learn God’s gift of work, find employment, and experience life in Christ.

The Jobs For Life Class

The JfL class is designed to be 16-sessions and last 8-weeks (based on the average JfL class being held twice a week or two classes held once per week).  Each class is led by a “Site Leadership Team,” including a trained instructor who leads class participants through a Biblically-based curriculum designed to teach God’s design for work, how to overcome roadblocks to employment, and how to build healthy relationships with members of the community. Work-force soft skills are taught as well, such as how to write a resumé, how to prepare for a job interview, and how to develop a career plan.

The JfL class is about far more than just a job—it’s a platform with the potential to connect people from different cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds, helping them experience the Gospel in a shared community comprised of the employed, unemployed and underemployed.
